Believe in a Bright Future

Believe in a Bright Future

With so much negative news, political division and unrest in the world, it would be natural for us to worry about our future, especially our children.  Without a lot of intentional positive conversation and encouragement may leave our kids may struggle to sort out their feelings or emotions.  Worrying can then become a part of their everyday life. As we all know, worry can have affects on our health and self-image.  Helping your kids open up and encouraging them about their futures can be one of the most important things a parent can do in today’s very negative world.  Here are some important questions to start the conversation.

Table Topics

Question 1

What do you see as positive in the world today?

The answers to this question will tell you a lot about what your kids are thinking.  They may think things are mostly negative but let them talk it out.  Remind them that even with all the negative things there are many positive things as well; we just have to be intentional and change how we view the world and our place in it.

When you think about your future what do you see?

Listen to how they paint the picture of their futures.  If it’s negative you will have to spend time in helping them turn it around.  Tell them where you find hope in a bleak world and how you know that you have been blessed and how your kids are going to be blessed as well.  As they enumerate the good things in their life, their focus will begin to move away from the negative.

What would a great future look like for you?

If they could choose anything what would it be for themselves?  Many times having a bright future begins with imagining it.  If you can imagine it then it becomes easier to begin believing in it for themselves.  These positive thoughts and messages can and will help direct their paths.

Having a great future and a blessed life is truly for everyone.  Our children, more than ever, need to know that you also believe in a bright future for them as well.  Parenting is most often like coaching.  Be their greatest fan and encourage them to believe in their great future.
