Signs of a Healthy Family

Do you know what a healthy family looks like? Do your children? If you want to be a healthy family, whatever it means to you, it is a good idea to start the conversation to understand not only what a healthy family is but to also understand what your children think it is. Once you come into agreement as to what a healthy family is then you can discover whether or not your family meets the criteria and what steps you can take to become healthier.

Question 1

What are the signs of a healthy family?

Your children witness all kinds of families through their school relationships, neighborhood friends, and even relatives. Explain that by signs you mean what is the evidence of a healthy family. Do not over define the term “healthy”. Allow them to decide what it means to them but help them understand it is not strictly based on medical wellbeing.

Are we a healthy family?

By their own definition, let them discuss whether or not they believe your family is healthy. It may start with your meal choices, but the conversation should cover much more ground than that. Encourage them by suggesting that a healthy family is a strong, successful, and well-founded family: not to be measured in financial terms or possessions. Keep the focus of the conversation on the dynamics of the family.

How can we become a healthier family?

As they responded to the first question they were giving clues to what they see in your family and families around you. Encourage them to discuss real ways to become committed to one another as well as better at constructive communication. You are being intentional about improving your family simply by taking the time to entertain these conversations.

Families that eat together are stronger, healthier, and more secure. Be encouraged. Whatever your children’s responses have been know that you are becoming a better family. As stated in an article at it takes determination, commitment and effort on your part to be a healthy family. It is worth the effort. Be intentional. C2 it and be blessed.
